Sea Isle City's Polar Bear Plunge makes for funny faces and outrageous costumes (PHOTOS)

With temperatures hovering around the 30-degree mark with a wind chill of 26 degrees Saturday, some would say this was just about perfect weather for a polar plunge.

But the faces of the plungers going in and coming out of the 41-degree ocean told another story.

This Presidents' Day weekend, Sea Isle City held its 26th polar plunge, as thousands of people made the trip to either plunge, party or partake in both.

The always popular costume contest started out the day at La Costa Lounge and Deck Bar as people took the stage to show off their creativity. This year Elvis, the Fanta girls and an Army tank made an appearance.

The energetic duo FunZaLuv kept the party going before and after the noon plunge.

As the plungers gathered on the beach, many huddled together trying to stay warm while others ran up and down the beach trying to psych themselves up for the chilly Atlantic Ocean.

"Wimpy," said seasoned plunger Chris Rodden, of Sewell, when describing the weather. Rodden has been to every plunge and remembers one year when there were chunks of ice in the ocean.

This year there were no chunks of ice but the screams coming from most of the people as they exited the water suggested the water was cold enough for them.

The weekend-long event ends Sunday with Mike's Seafood 5K Run and 1.5-Mile Fun Walk for Autism.
