President Donald Trump made an appearance with First Lady Melania during the Daytona 500 opening ceremonies on Sunday.

Trump uttered the famous phrase: "gentlemen, start your engines," as a field of 36 NASCAR drivers took off around the famous Florida track. Trump is only the second in-office president to attend the race. President Reagan became the first sitting president to attend a NASCAR race in 1984.

"Right now, if I can, I'm gonna hop into one of these cars and I'm gonna get into this race, if possible," he joked with Fox Sports.

The president was the grand marshal at the race and took a lap around the track in the presidential limousine, dubbed "The Beast." There was also a fly-over the Daytona International Speedway by the Air Force Thunderbirds before the race.

"The Daytona 500 is the legendary display of roaring engines, soaring spirits and the American skill, speed and power that we've been hearing about for so many years," Trump told the crowd before the race began, according to Fox News.
