| Posted: 23 Feb 2020 09:56 AM PST House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff accused President Trump of betraying the country with his response to reports that Russia is interfering in the 2020 presidential election. Trump claimed Sunday that he had not been briefed on the interference effort aimed at disrupting the Democratic presidential primary in favor of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, despite a Washington Post report citing anonymous sources who said the president and lawmakers had been told of the matter. Intelligence officials also reportedly warned lawmakers that the Russians were trying to help Trump win reelection. Trump's national security adviser Robert O'Brien said he has not seen any intelligence to corroborate that analysis. O'Brien also denied that acting Director of National Intelligence Joseph Maguire was ousted over the briefing. On Sunday morning, Trump told reporters he suspects Schiff is behind the reports. "I read where Russia's helping Bernie Sanders. Nobody said it to me at all. Nobody briefed me about that at all," he said, later adding, "Adam Schiff and his group, they leaked it to the papers. As usual, they ought to investigate Adam Schiff for leaking that information. He should not be leaking information out of intelligence. They ought to investigate Adam Schiff." Schiff, a leading critic of Trump, fired back in a tweet, writing, "Your false claims fool no one. You welcomed Russian help in 2016, tried to coerce Ukraine's help in 2019, and won't protect our elections in 2020. Now you fired your intel chief for briefing Congress about it. You've betrayed America. Again." In his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, special counsel Robert Mueller concluded that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 election in a "sweeping and systematic" fashion. The intelligence community also issued an assessment that the Kremlin had "a clear preference" for Trump. Mueller did not, however, establish any criminal conspiracy between Russia and the Trump campaign. Trump was impeached in December on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress for his efforts to get Ukraine to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company while his father was vice president. Schiff helped lead the impeachment investigation and argued the case for Trump's conviction to the Senate, which acquitted the president on both charges earlier this month. |

| NASCAR odds to win the 2020 Pennzoil 400 Posted: 23 Feb 2020 09:23 AM PST Two-time winner Kevin Harvick is the favorite to win the 2020 Pennzoil 400, according to the latest NASCAR odds. (Photo credit: Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports)Following his Daytona 500 win, Denny Hamlin is +800 to win the 2020 Pennzoil 500 according to the latest NASCAR odds. Kevin Harvick is the current favorite to win the Pennzoil 400, with NASCAR odds of +525. Harvick has won the Pennzoil 400 twice, most recently in 2018. Last year's Pennzoil 400 winner, Joey Logano, is among the favorites to win this year's event at +575. Jimmie Johnson is a four-time winner of this event. His last Pennzoil 400 win came in 2010. Johnson is +3300 to win the 2020 Pennzoil 400. If you have never bet on NASCAR odds before, a $10 bet on Johnson to win at +3300 would pay $330. | Biden tops 2020 Democratic field in South Carolina, new poll finds Posted: 23 Feb 2020 09:18 AM PST Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden is leading the 2020 Democratic presidential field in South Carolina, according to a CBS News/YouGov poll released on Sunday. Mr. Biden was at 28% support among likely Democratic primary voters in the Palmetto State, and was followed by Sen. Bernard Sanders of Vermont at 23% and billionaire environmental activist Tom Steyer at 18%. Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts was next at 12%, followed by former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 10%, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota at 4%, and Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii at 1%. Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has risen to as high as second place in recent national polling, is not on the ballot for South Carolina's primary on Saturday. Mr. Biden has consistently led among black voters, but Mr. Steyer and Mr. Sanders have eaten into his advantage compared to November. In the poll released on Sunday, the former vice president was at 35% support among black primary voters, compared to 24% for Mr. Steyer and 23% for Mr. Sanders. In November, Mr. Biden was at 54%, compared to 17% for Mr. Sanders and 2% for Mr. Steyer. The survey of 1,238 likely Democratic primary voters was conducted Feb. 20-22 and has a margin of error of about 5.5 points. Sign up for Daily Newsletters |

| National security adviser dismisses claims of Russian 2020 interference Posted: 23 Feb 2020 08:54 AM PST National security adviser Robert O'Brien dismissed claims of Russian interference in the 2020 election on behalf of President Donald Trump, contradicting concerns reportedly brought forward by intelligence officials. "The national security adviser gets pretty good access to our intelligence. I haven't seen any intelligence that Russia is doing anything to attempt to get President Trump reelected," O'Brien said in an interview airing Sunday on ABC's "This Week." Advertisement O'Brien said he wasn't going to "play that Washington game" and that he hasn't seen intelligence or analysis from the intelligence community supporting claims of interference to help the president. Reports emerged last week that senior intelligence officials have warned the House Intelligence Committee that Russia is meddling to re-elect Trump, who has been lambasted for having an overly warm relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. In 2018, Putin admitted he wanted Trump to win the 2016 election but sidestepped answering whether he directed his officials to help. Trump on Friday called the reports a hoax, tweeting, "Another misinformation campaign is being launched by Democrats in Congress saying that Russia prefers me to any of the Do Nothing Democrat candidates who still have been unable to, after two weeks, count their votes in Iowa. Hoax number 7!" (It's not clear why Trump gave it that number.) Another misinformation campaign is being launched by Democrats in Congress saying that Russia prefers me to any of the Do Nothing Democrat candidates who still have been unable to, after two weeks, count their votes in Iowa. Hoax number 7! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 21, 2020The intelligence officials also said Russia was interfering in the Democratic primaries to help Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Sanders responded Saturday to the reports before going on to decisively win the Nevada caucuses: "Look, here is the message to Russia: Stay out of American elections." The Kremlin has denied that it's interfering in the 2020 election to boost Trump's re-election chances, saying the reports were "paranoid announcements," according to Reuters. O'Brien said he believes countries like Russia and China like to "sow disruption" in the American electorate, but it doesn't mean they prefer a particular candidate. "The only analysis I heard was reported second-hand from leaks from the House Intelligence Committee," he said. "But I've seen zero intelligence that Russia is doing anything to help ... President Trump get reelected. And I don't think it makes any sense." ABC host George Stephanopoulos later asked: "After these reports came out, you didn't ask to see this analysis?" "Look, I've been with the leaders of the Intelligence Committee. They don't have it," O'Brien said. He added, "All I know is that the Republicans on the side of the House hearing were unhappy with the hearing and said that there was no intelligence to back up what was being said." Stephanopoulos countered: "But don't you have a responsibility as national security adviser ... to go find out? And why is the president calling it disinformation?" "I don't know, these are leaks. You're basing your assumptions, George, on leaks that came out of a House Intelligence Committee hearing," O'Brien said. |
| Yang calls on someone to 'pull an Andrew Yang' and bow out of 2020 race Posted: 23 Feb 2020 08:42 AM PST Tech entrepreneur and former 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang on Saturday called for some of the remaining Democratic primary contenders to follow him and drop out of the race. "Someone needs to pull an Andrew Yang and be like, 'I've done the math, I'm not going to win,'" Yang said on CNN after Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) was projected to win the Nevada caucuses, further cementing the democratic socialist as the front-runner in the race. Addressing the characteristics of the Democratic primary, Yang said that the rest of the field would ideally "consolidate," but noted that "each candidate wants to be the last person standing to absorb the non-Bernie energy." "The problem for Bernie is that he's unlikely to get an outright majority heading into the convention, which is going to set the stage for the superdelegates to emerge," Yang, who suspended his long-shot bid after poor performances in Iowa and New Hampshire, said. "And then you're looking at a contested convention, which is also the dream scenario for non-Bernie candidates." The Associated Press called the Nevada race with about 50 percent of precincts reporting and Sanders receiving about 46.7 percent of that vote. Former Vice President Joe Biden was in a distant second with 19.2 percent of the vote. The win builds on the momentum Sanders had created following a win in New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary. National and state polls have consistently shown Sanders with sizable leads over the rest of the field. But election forecasts are predicting that he may not earn a majority of pledged delegates at the Democratic National Convention in July, setting up a scenario in which unpledged delegates, or superdelegates, will help decide the nominee. "The superdelegates, let's say, are not going to be favorably disposed towards Bernie, and each of the remaining candidates will say like, you know, 'I'm the pick,'" Yang said on Saturday. "So that's the dream that's going to keep every other candidate in the race." If no Democratic candidate gets a majority of pledged delegates, there would be a second ballot at the convention in July. In this situation, votes would come from two sets of delegates - votes from the 3,979 pledged delegates and 771 votes from superdelegates. Pledged delegates would also be free to change their choice on subsequent ballots, with the candidate who earns a majority winning the nomination. |

| 'Party of jobs': Ted Cruz predicts blue-collar boom will make difference for GOP in 2020 Posted: 23 Feb 2020 08:02 AM PST Texas Sen. Ted Cruz celebrated the Republican Party's hold on blue-collar voters ahead of the 2020 presidential election. "The Democratic Party has abandoned the working class, has abandoned union members, and the GOP has become the blue-collar party of jobs," Cruz tweeted Saturday night. The Texas senator was responding to analysis from Democratic presidential candidate-turned-CNN pundit Andrew Yang. "They do not think Democrats speak to them," Yang said of the working class, later adding, "We have to solve these underlying economic issues that have been festering and building up in our communities for years and decades that got Donald Trump elected." Trump is expected to tout a strong economy and rely on votes from working-class people in key states in the Midwest to earn reelection this fall. 2020 Democratic front-runner Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, however, may present a challenge to the president's securing the working-class vote as he fights against "oligarchs" in America. |

| No global digital tax by end-2020 would mean digital tax chaos: France Posted: 23 Feb 2020 07:17 AM PST RIYADH (Reuters) - Failure to reach a global deal on where and how much to tax digital giants like Google(GOOGL.O), Amazon(AMZN.O) or Facebook(FB.O) would result in many digital tax regimes emerging all over the world, France's Finance Minister said on Sunday. FILE PHOTO: French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire attends a news conference to kick off the France's national lottery operator Francaise des Jeux (FDJ) listing with the opening of the share subscription process in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, France, November 7, 2019. REUTERS/Gonzalo Fuentes/File Photo Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of a meeting of world financial leaders, Bruno Le Maire said the gathering had been very useful in establishing consensus on such global tax rules. Finance ministers and central bank governors from the world's 20 biggest economies, the G20, met in Riyadh for talks on global economic issues, with digital taxation topping their two-day agenda. "For the first tine there is wide consensus among the G20 members on the necessity of having a new international taxation system," Le Maire said. "We have to address the issue of digital companies making profits in many countries without any physical presence, which means without paying the due level of taxes," he said. "And we also have to address the key question of minimum taxation and the risk of having a race to the bottom on taxation," he said. France has already adopted its own digital tax, but suspended it until the end of the year to give the G20 time to work out a global deal to which all countries would subscribe. The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, the G20's think tank, wants to agree on technical details of such a tax by July and a full agreement among the G20 is expected by the end of the year. "There is a consensus to build a solution by the end of 2020," Le Maire said, noting the alternative — no agreement — would create a proliferation of different tax systems making life more difficult for companies. "Lets be clear — either we have at the end of 2020 an international solution... clearly in the interest of all countries and digital companies, or there is no solution and ... then it will be up the national taxes to enter into force," Le Maire said. "Instead of having one single, simple solution, we would have many different digital taxes, all over the world," he said. The United States, home to most of the digital giants, has been wary of committing to a solution on taxing them before U.S. presidential elections later this year, and has threatened to slap tariffs on French goods if Paris did not suspend the implementation of the tax. | Who is No. 1? Whoever gets to fill out 2020 Census form Posted: 23 Feb 2020 06:45 AM PST Updated 6:39 am PST, Sunday, February 23, 2020 Who is No. 1? Whoever gets to fill out 2020 Census form ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — It's a question spouses, domestic partners and roommates are going to be forced to confront in the next few weeks as they fill out their 2020 Census forms: Who gets to be the primary person in the household? Everyone else who lives in the home has to be identified on the form by how they are related to so-called "Person 1." It's a question that even the most egalitarian homes are going to have to figure out — though it's sure to spark some intriguing conversations. For married couple Debbie Kleinberg and Frankie Huff, it's a no-brainer. "Me, because anytime Frankie has paperwork, I do it," said Kleinberg, a credit administrator, who lives with her college-professor wife in an Orlando suburb. Kleinberg says the 2020 Census-answering process in their home will follow a familiar pattern. "The notice will come in the mail. It will sit on the kitchen table for a couple of days, or weeks. It may even get lost, and we will find it after sorting through a pile of bills later," Kleinberg said. But she will eventually fill it out. "Being introverts, we don't want anyone knocking on our door," she said. Deciding who fills out the questionnaire may force spouses or domestic partners to talk about power dynamics they might not have discussed for 10 years, since the last time there was a decennial census, said Diana Betz, an assistant professor of psychology at Loyola University Maryland. In some households, she added, the topic might never have come up. That could mean contemplating whether having a bigger salary or a more important job title trumps the traditional gender norms a couple may have settled into, or if doing more for a household through domestic chores or child-raising gives someone the claim, Betz said. "You might be saying stuff that was previously left unspoken," Betz said. In Betz's home, her husband, an economist, will be filling out the questionnaire when it first becomes available in mid-March, but that's only because he wrote his dissertation about the census. "So, that's a complicating factor," she said. The 2020 form says "Person 1" should be someone who pays the rent or owns the home. If nobody meets that description, "start by listing any adult living here as Person 1," according to the form. Knowing how everyone else is related to "Person 1" helps the Census Bureau understand the different types of households there are, and their numbers, such as family households with a grandparent living in the home. Until 40 years ago, Person 1 was called "head of household" or "head of family." But the U.S. Census Bureau stopped using those monikers as more women were entering the workforce and fewer men were the sole breadwinners. "Householder" also is used to describe the person to whom the relationship of all other household members is recorded. The most recent American Community Survey offers a sneak-peak of how the genders of "Person 1" may break down in the 2020 Census — and it points to a fairly even divide. In2018, there were a total of79 millionhouseholds with families. In 41 million of those homes, the householder was a man, and in 38 million homes, the householder was a woman. This year, there are more options on the census form for describing how people are related to Person 1 since the Census Bureau has added categories like "opposite-sex unmarried partner," "same-sex husband/wife/spouse" and "same-sex unmarried partner." The change came after the 2010 census when the form only had "husband or wife" and "unmarried partners" to describe romantic attachments. Several studies have theorized that same-sex couples from the 2010 census were inflated due to unintentional mis-markings by confused heterosexual married couples. Unlike in years past, most people won't be filling out the form by hand and mailing it back. Instead, the Census Bureau is encouraging a majority of respondents to answer the questions online, although people also will be able to answer by telephone and by mailing in their responses. Census workers will be sent out to knock on the doors of homes of people who haven't responded by May. The 2020 Census will help determine how $1.5 trillion in federal spending is distributed as well as how many congressional seats each state gets. The Census Bureau offers no guidance on how to sort out who comes first. When asked how people should decide who in their home gets to respond, Census Bureau director Steven Dillingham said he wasn't going to venture an opinion, "just as long as someone is answering and we get a self-response." And who will be filling out the form in his home? "That's a good question," Dillingham said. "Hopefully, I'm home and maybe it will be me. But if not, my wife will do a great job." ___ Follow Mike Schneider on Twitter at https://twitter.com/MikeSchneiderAP |

| Tokyo 2020: Seaward sets NI record and Olympic standard time in Seville Posted: 23 Feb 2020 03:28 AM PST Kevin Seaward set a new Northern Irish record at the Seville Marathon Kevin Seaward has set a new Northern Ireland record of 2:10.10 after finishing 24th at the Seville Marathon. It is well inside the Olympic qualifying standard for Tokyo and eclipses Paul Pollock's previous NI record of 2:10.25. Seaward, 36, joins Pollock in achieving an Olympic qualifying time, however only three spots are available in the Ireland team for the Games. Stephen Scullion has secured his spot in Tokyo at January's Houston Marathon. Scullion's run to fifth place was 22 seconds outside the qualifying standard but the Houston event was a gold label race which secured his Olympic place. If another athlete records the qualifying time before the qualification period ends on 31 May then Athletics Ireland will have a selection process for the Games. Seaward's time in Spain was the second fastest time by an Irish athlete behind 1984 Olympic silver medallist John Treacy, who holds the Irish record of 2:09.15 in Boston in 1988. The St Malachy's runner finished fourth in the 2018 Commonwealth Games marathon in Australia and was an Olympian in Rio in 2016. |

| Giants WR Darius Slayton Shoots His Shot With Kehlani Ahead of 2020 Concert Posted: 23 Feb 2020 12:40 AM PST New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton is incredibly keen on getting a ticket to the Kehlani show at MetLife Stadium in September, but he has more on his mind than just music. Slayton seems desperate to meet the rising star singer, and he's even gone out of his way to make his desire known on Twitter. At this point, all we can say is that we hope it works out for Slayton. The former Auburn wideout, who quickly established chemistry with rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, vastly outplayed his fifth-round draft position last season, as he piled up 740 yards and eight touchdowns. If he can somehow speak this into existence, Slayton will have put a bow on one of the greatest rookie seasons in Giants history. Kehlani probably isn't going to see this, but you have to respect Slayton's hustle here. Thousands of guys are probably thinking the same thing, but Slayton at least had the chutzpah to put his feelings out there on Twitter. Hopefully the bold young speed demon's wish is granted. |
| Jennifer Palmieri: 2016 Dem Convention Could Be "Child's Play" Compared To 2020 Convention Posted: 23 Feb 2020 12:36 AM PST Former Obama White House communications director and Director of Communications for the Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign Jennifer Palmieri weighs in on Democratic infighting and how that could impact the 2020 party convention in Milwaukee. Palmieri called it "very unfortunate" if the convention has to go to a second ballot to decide a nominee. JENNIFER PALMIERI: I feel like that it's going to be the '16 convention is child's play compared to what could unfold in Milwaukee for sure. And, you know, I don't know. Every candidate on the debate the other night, Chuck Todd asked them that question. If the candidate goes into Milwaukee and has a plurality of delegates but not 1991, the magic number, should they become the nominee? And each person besides Bernie said no. That meant everybody is saying we're going all the way to Milwaukee. I'm holding on to my delegates. And, you know, that is -- I mean those are the rules. The rules are that it does not get decided until the convention. You have to have 1,991. Then if you go to a second ballot, it goes from there once super delegates start to vote. So it could happen. It would be a very unfortunate thing, I think, to have that kind of convention. And anything can happen. |
